Lesson 11 - Climbing Hills Without Burning Out
🎓 BOOTY BUTTER ACADEMY | LESSON 11 Climbing Hills Without Burning Out
Every cyclist faces hills. The secret isn't being the strongest rider—it's learning how to climb smarter. With the right pacing, gearing and technique, you'll reach the top feeling stronger and ready for the next challenge.
⛰️ 1. Start Slower Than You Think
One of the biggest mistakes riders make is attacking the hill too hard. Instead: ✔ Settle into a comfortable rhythm. ✔ Keep your breathing under control. ✔ Save energy for the second half of the climb. Remember: hills reward patience.
⚙️ 2. Choose the Right Gear
Shift into an easier gear before the hill becomes steep. Spinning your legs is much more efficient than pushing a heavy gear. Aim for a smooth, steady cadence instead of grinding.
🫁 3. Control Your Breathing
Many cyclists unknowingly hold their breath when climbing. Focus on:
- Deep breaths.
- Relaxed shoulders.
- Steady breathing rhythm.
🚴 4. Sit... Then Stand
Stay seated for most climbs to conserve energy. Stand only when you need to:
- Stretch your legs.
- Increase power briefly.
- Get over a steep section.
💧 5. Fuel Before the Hill
Don't wait until you're exhausted. Eat and drink before a long climb. Your body performs best when it has the energy ready to go. Small, regular nutrition is better than waiting until you feel empty.
💗 Bonus Tip
Long climbs often mean more time in the saddle. The longer you're seated, the more friction your skin experiences. Applying Booty Butter before your ride helps keep you comfortable all the way to the summit. Comfort helps you stay focused on the climb—not on discomfort.
Remember...
Every great climber was once the rider who dreaded hills. Consistency beats speed. Ride your own pace. Celebrate every summit.
💗 Ride Comfortable. Ride Confident. Ride Further.
💡 Coach Booty Says "Don't race the hill. Learn to work with it, and one day you'll wonder why it ever seemed so hard."
⭐ Gold Star Tip Keep your eyes looking up the road, not at your front wheel. Looking ahead helps improve balance, breathing and confidence on climbs.
