Booty Butter

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bike is all about women supporting women in cycling. Bikes are expensive, beginner cyclists and their families are often intimidated by the initial cost of cycling so we at Booty Butter are looking to increase the participation of children and women taking up the sport by providing a "traveling bike" that can be passed on to a nominated newby to help them start their cycling journey.

As an avid cyclist, I love getting out on my bike and enjoying the beautiful weather and sites of Perth. I really wanted to share my passion with my kids so when my son showed an interest in cycling I jumped at the chance to share this great sport with him. I was fortunate to have a fellow MAMIL team member "pay it forward" on a bike that he had for his son. This was an amazing gift which was greatly received and started many weekend rides with my son. We started out on short rides to learn the rules of the road, practice gear changes, hand signals, verbal commands and generally getting used to a new bike. It didn't take long before he was asking to go on longer rides and explore more of the hills and city. 15km rides soon turned into 30km rides and the tradition of a coffee stop was not only appreciated but a really special Mother/Son bonding time. Although he loved road cycling after a couple of years he turned his attention to mountain bike riding as we have so many fantastic trails right on our doorstep. We gifted the bike to another young and eager child who has grabbed the opportunity with two hands is currently winning gold!!

"My daughter was very fortunate to have been given a little road bike from a lovey friend. Her passion for bike riding escalated dramatically and we put her into a 10km time trail bike race at Champion Lakes in WA. She was the only 11 year old  and won a gold medal for U13 in this event. Since then she has out grown the bike and as instructed "Paid it forward" and it was donated to Ross, a coach at the Midland Cycling Club so it will give more children a chance to fall in love with cycling. Since this my daughter has won more state medals. This has inspired my daughter to want to become a professional cyclist and to ride all around the world. This small gift is now a little girls dream!!!"
