Lesson 17 - Riding in Wet Weather
π BOOTY BUTTER ACADEMY | LESSON 17 Riding in Wet Weather
Rain doesn't have to stop your ride. With the right preparation, wet-weather cycling can be safe, enjoyable and surprisingly rewarding.
The key is staying visible, staying comfortable and riding a little smarter.
π§οΈ 1. Slow Down
Wet roads reduce grip. Give yourself more time to:
- Brake
- Corner
- Descend
- Avoid obstacles
π 2. Be Seen
Rain makes it harder for motorists to see cyclists.
Before every wet ride:
β Turn on your front and rear lights.
β Wear bright or reflective clothing.
β Avoid riding in vehicle blind spots. Visibility saves lives.
π΄ 3. Watch the Road Surface
Not every surface grips the same.
Be cautious around:
- Painted road markings
- Metal drain covers
- Tram or rail tracks
- Wet leaves
- Oil patches at intersections
π¦ 4. Wet Doesn't Stop Chafing
Many riders think rain prevents friction. It often makes it worse.
Wet clothing, soaked chamois and extra movement can increase skin irritation.
Applying Booty Butter before your ride creates a protective barrier that helps reduce frictionβeven in wet conditions.
𧽠5. Clean Your Bike Afterwards
Rain carries grit, dirt and road grime.
After every wet ride:
- Rinse your bike.
- Dry it thoroughly.
- Lubricate your chain.
- Check your brake pads.
π Bonus Tip Pack a dry towel and a spare set of clothes in your car or ride bag. Nothing feels better after a wet ride than getting warm and dry.
Remember...
You don't need perfect weather to enjoy cycling. You just need the right preparation. Ride smart. Ride safely. Ride comfortably.
π Ride Comfortable. Ride Confident. Ride Further.
π‘ Coach Booty Says "There's no such thing as bad weatherβonly riders who forgot to prepare."
β Gold Star Tip Lower your tyre pressure slightly in the wet. It increases your tyre's contact with the road and improves grip. (Just don't go below the tyre manufacturer's recommended range.)
β Question of the Week What's your wet-weather essential? π§οΈ Waterproof jacket
π‘ Bright lights
𧀠Gloves
𧴠Booty Butter
β A hot coffee afterwards!
